Conway Hall Sunday Concerts: The Fidelio Trio
November 7, 2021
The Fidelio Trio are enthusiastic champions of the piano trio genre, performing the widest possible range of repertoire on concert stages across the world; they are broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3, RTÉ Lyric FM, WNYC, NPR and featured on Sky Arts documentaries; they have an impressive list of commissions and first performances from the leading and newest composers and have a large discography of highly acclaimed recordings.
Their Conway Hall programme includes the London premiere of Robert Saxton’s Fantasy Pieces, which was commissioned for the trio with funding from the RVW Trust.
The 8th Fidelio Trio WCMF: Beethoven250
Premiered Nov 29, 2020
The composer who penned the four most recognisable notes in the history of music. A true artist: dishevelled, volatile and unlucky in love – but a great believer in humanity. A genius who wrote some of his greatest works after he lost his hearing.
To commemorate the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven’s birth, we would like to share the opening movement from a pinnacle of the piano trio literature ‘Archduke’, alongside a new commission commemorating 25th anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Spencer Boney, founding pianist of the Fidelio Trio.
Moeran & McKay (with Fidelio Trio & Philippa Mo)
Premiered Aug 14, 2020
Members of The Fidelio Trio, joined by violinist Philippa Mo, explore music by our patron composer, Ernest Moeran, marking the 70th anniversary of his death in 1950 and, true to the Festival’s mission and tradition, focus on a living Irish composer, this year Deirdre McKay.
The programme encompasses some of Moeran’s most evocative chamber music and the exquisite soundworlds McKay constructs from minimal sources and materials.
